Rampaging armed bandits in Asaba and its environs in Delta State on Monday allegedly shot a prominent businessman (name withheld) around the United Bank for Africa (UBA) along Nnebisi road when their attempt to snatch away a sack bag containing huge sums of money from him failed.
Eye witness, Jude Ibim said the armed robbers ambushed the unsuspecting business around Ibusa Jucntion after trailing him from his company around Abraka community to the junction where they allegedly shot him in the chest but managed to enter into the bank premises with the gun shot injuries and deposited the money before he broke down for help.
He said to have been rushed to the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Asaba, by the Bank (UBA) officials, unfortunately gave up the ghost on the way to the hospital.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka confirmed that the businessman a father of five children was shot in the chest, unfortunately died on the way to the hospital.
He said that the armed robbers ambushed the businessman at Ibusa junction where the shot him in the chest on his way to the bank, adding that passersby ran for their dear lives during the robbers’ shoot out. Mr. Aniamaka disclosed that investigation was ongoing with a view to arresting the fleeing robbers.
Relations of the businessman who did not want their names in the print, said it was unfortunate that their brother was killed by armed robbers, and called on security agents to fish them out.
